BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. - More details  emerged Friday in a case involving a Brooke County man already locked up in a federal facility on a child pornography conviction who was trying to have someone bring him child porn to look at while he was behind bars.
As it turns out, the person he was conspiring with was his wife.
Michael Jones, 41, admitted to communicating with his wife to obtain pornographic images sometime between February and March of last year.
This all took place as he was serving a 300-month (25-year) sentence at the Federal Correctional Complex Hopewell, Va.
Brooke County Prosecutor Joe Barki said once authorities contacted Jones' wife, she fully cooperated in the investigation, which led to her husband's additional felony charge that he pleaded guilty to Friday.
As part of the plea agreement, Jones' wife will not be charged in connection to the case.
"While in the federal system, Mr. Jones began sending letters and calling his wife, who is located here in Brooke County West Virginia at the previous residence, requesting of her to obtain child porn, advising her of different websites and areas she could go to locate that pornography, and to provide him while incarcerated in the federal system," Barki said.
Jones was sentenced to 1-5 years and it will be served concurrently with the time he's already serving.
With this additional felony on his record, if anything like this happens again, Jones would get life in prison.
