FOLLANSBEE, W.Va. – Despite a few bumps – and slips – in the road, officials say the Follansbee pool will be opened in time for Memorial Day Weekend.
City Manager John Destefano confirmed that Thursday, despite a hole in the pool and an early morning road slip that caused more problems at the park. Still, they’re working hard and taking all precautions to get everything in tip top shape for the weekend.
“The last couple of days we’ve had a few slips inside the park,”  Destefano said. “Up by the upper shelter, we had some ground movement. We weren’t sure exactly what was going on.”
The main concern is the land holds up Parkview Hill.
Mud rocks and tree branches scatter the area, creating a mess that will take some time and money to clean up.
“After we get a few repairs made up there we'll see when the ground dries out what really happens,” Destefano said. “It’s not going to be an easy or inexpensive fix.”
This trail around the pool has some bumps and ridges that lifted up the ground. Up the stairs, the pavilion will remain closed.
“There was no movement on the road directly below the road anything that happened was done near the upper shelter in the park,” Destefano said.
They will close the pool after Monday to continue work.
“We plan on closing after Memorial Day,” Destefano said. “Kids are still in school anyhow so we wouldn’t be open during the day.”
