Outpouring of support for Mozingo family

It's been exactly one week since the explosion that destroyed the Mozingo family’s home and rocked the Hooverson Heights community.  Last week, the Brooke County sheriff said that it appeared to be a natural gas explosion, but the investigation is still underway.

Friday morning, wreaths could be found placed near where the home once stood, and where huge heaps of debris still sit.

Crews from the gas company were out at the site Friday morning, and tell NEWS9 the investigation is ongoing.  Meanwhile, insurance crews have been out in recent days assessing the damage at nearby homes and businesses.

JB Appliance is located just a few feet behind where the Mozingo family's home once stood, and in the last few days, they have been picking up the pieces and trying to run business as usual.

"All the elements down. The floors [were] all wet from the water busting through,” Nicholas Pannett of JB Appliance said.  “It feels like it was yesterday."

The computer and appliance repair shop is now needing some repairs itself.

“We’re still selling things,” Pannett said.  “We tried to get people around the traffic on Friday, but we are still open."

The father-son business is still operating as best it can despite some cracked walls and busted doors and windows.  They said they have family, friends and co-workers to thank for helping them deal with the damage, and providing supplies like food and water.

NEWS9 has learned from a close family friend that the Mozingos' other daughter has been released from the hospital, Mrs. Mozingo is still recovering at Trinity West and the father was moved out of the burn unit at a Pittsburgh area hospital.

In the coming weeks, community members have organized several benefits to help raise funds for the Mozingo family in honor of Hannah, who died in the blast.

Friday night, half of the money raised at the Haunted School of Terror will go to the Mozingo family, and Saturday at 9 p.m. all proceeds at the Jackie Boyz restaurant will go toward the family.
