Runners team up for annual 5k walk

WEIRTON, W.Va - Locals hit the pavement in running shoes this morning in Weirton to support Never Alone West Virginia.

Runners teamed up with Quick Fit for their fifth annual 5k walk, and for the first time, it included running.

The group supports a drug-free community and works to help people battle addiction.
               
The course started at Starvaggi Park and wound through a nearby neighborhood before returning back to the park for the finish. .

"We support a drug-free community in Hancock and Brooke County, that's why we're here today,” Never Alone Founder Patti Barnabei said.
 
Proceeds from the event will go toward helping people get into detox and rehabilitation programs.
 
"Everyone wants to exercise for a cause and that would get them out, if they knew they were working out for a good cause,” Crossfit owner Denise Miller said.
