Officers pull fire victims to safety

Updated: Wednesday, December 4 2013, 07:14 PM EST

An early morning fire Friday sends several residents out of their home.

The blaze broke out at the Heights Manor Apartments on North Shadyside Drive in East Liverpool.

On Saturday, NEWS9 spoke with the officers who knocked down the doors to pull the residents out of the apartment.

Officer Christopher Green said he and Officer Kelsey Hendrick of the East Liverpool Police Department couldn't see anything in front of them because of all the smoke inside the building.

Green said they both decided to start kicking in the doors to find and carry people to safety.

Fire crews were able to contain the flames to two units on the top floor. In total, six units were affected.

Right now, it is unclear what may have sparked the fire.
