The shooting death of a businessman who served as a mayor in Belmont County is now a homicide investigation, officials said Tuesday.

Marvin Brown, 73, was shot found dead around 5:30 p.m. Monday in a hunting cabin behind his home on Powhatan Hill Road.

Brown is the owner of Powhatan Construction and was mayor of Powhatan in 1985 and 1986.

Belmont County Sheriff Dave Lucas said officials are investigating Brown's death as a homicide. Lucas said his investigators are currently working with the county coroner and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation to learn more.

Lucas said officials are in the "intense part of the investigation," but he said there are more questions than answers, and police are asking the public for help trying to find the truth.

"We are working on this aggressively," he said.
