Wheeling Jesuit student assaulted dies

WHEELING, W.Va.---

According to Wheeling police, the Wheeling Jesuit University student athlete who was attacked early Saturday Morning died Sunday.

Wheeling Police are still investigating the malicious assault.

According to Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger the victim, Kevin M. Figaniak, 21, was found near Locust Avenue and National Road around 1:45 a.m.

Schwertfeger said that Figniak was transported to UPMC in Pittsburgh and died around 3:05 a.m. Sunday.

Police are working with the Allegheny Co. Medical Examiner, The West Virginia Medical Examiners office and the Ohio County Prosecuting Attorney as this investigation continues.

On Saturday, when police arrived after getting a call that a person was on the ground injured, Figaniak was rushed to the hospital.

A second victim stated that he and Figaniak were attacked by three or four white males in their early twenties. Two of the men had brown hair and were wearing blue jeans.

The second victim suffered from abrasions and refused medical treatment.
