Cumberland Trail FD joins crackdown on texting and driving campaign

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio –Cumberland Trail Fire Department is working to prevent texting and driving through a campaign launched Tuesday by the International Association of Firefighters.
The national public safety campaign, #justify it, began at the International Association of Firefighters Convention in Cincinnati.  Firefighters hope to bring awareness to the dangers of texting and driving along with the distractions and damage it can cause through the campaign.
Cumberland Trail FD officials say it's important to get the word out to help the local community.
"We want to get out there and educate people that this is very serious and we do not want to get people hurt by texting and driving,” said Allen Ketzell of the Cumberland Trail Fire Department. “And if you do need to use your phone, pull over, stop, sit on the side of the road, then do your telephone, text, um make your phone calls whatever you need to do."
Other tips they suggest include designating a passenger to be your texter while you're in the car and putting your phone on silent so you won't be distracted by notifications.
