7th Graders charged in slashed tires incident

Updated: Friday, December 20 2013, 02:19 PM EST

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va.--

Two seventh-graders are facing charges after dozens of neighbors in Moundsville had their tires slashed and mirrors broken.

Police say the two 12-year-olds are charged with 32 counts of destruction of property.

Moundsville Police Detective William Whitelatch said the vandalism cost drivers more than $5,000 to repair.

“We had a lot of tips for the middle school and high school that lead us to these boys,” said Whitelatch.

Whitelatch said they're hoping the boys will pay for the damage, but they could also face other penalties.

“There could be some type of sentence handed down, whether it's probation or community service, that's all going to depend on the circuit judge,” said Whitelatch.

We cannot release the names of the boys because they are juveniles, but we are told both have retained attorneys.
