BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – A man previously charged with four counts of rape was sentenced on lesser charges Friday morning in a Belmont County courtroom.
Martins Ferry’s Justin Archer, 26, went before a judge facing a maximum sentence of 4 years in prison -- and that's exactly what the judge gave him. Archer was originally charged with four counts of rape in March 2013.
Two months ago, he pleaded guilty to lesser charges of importuning and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.
Before being sentenced, Archer didn't say anything, but Common Pleas Judge John Solovan made sure to explain the reason he gave Archer the full time in prison.
"Only a lengthy sentence is appropriate to attempt to change this unhealthy behavioral pattern," Solovan said. “There will be no consideration of judicial release in this case without full acceptance of responsibility and accountability and serious sex abuse counseling. I’m not certain you'll be able to convince any judge."
After completing jail time, archer will be put on probation for 5 years
Solovan also had Archer register himself as a Tier 1 sex offender.
