Steubenville, OH -

AT&T announced a new investment on Friday that will give a boost to wireless device use, and make a major impact on economic development in the Steubenville and Weirton area.

The new infrastructure will update the wireless network from 3G to 4G LTE.

“4G LTE is 10 times faster than 3G and what that means is accessing the Internet is 10 times faster. So that means you are getting business done faster, communicating with your employees faster,” B.J. Smith, AT&T Ohio external affairs director, said.

Sen. Lou Gentile was just one of the many area leaders on hand on Friday. He said with the advancements in the oil and gas industry, the need for this advanced technology is critical.

“One of the challenges and barriers we’ve had to economic development has been lack of technology and this is a major investment, I think will go a long way in encouraging businesses to invest in the Steubenville and Eastern Ohio area,” Gentile said.

Steubenville Mayor Domenick Mucci said having access to the latest technology is important for businesses to compete effectively in our information-driven economy.

“In order for the city of Steubenville to address the economic needs, we need to retain our businesses and look for expansion of our present businesses,” Mucci said.
