BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- The Village of Bellaire is purchasing a new police cruiser to replace one of the two that were totaled in May when one slammed into the back of the other after a sudden stop on a ramp near Ohio 7.
Both cruisers, which had prisoners in tow, were totaled in that accident.
Bellaire Village Council passed a resolution on Thursday evening that allowed the purchase of a new police cruiser.
Village Administrator Dan Marling said they received an insurance check of $37,000 for the two totaled vehicles.
One of those cruisers has already been replaced with a retired state patrol car. With the money left over, they were able to purchase the new cruiser.
Marling said they should receive the new police cruiser in about 10 weeks. That's how long it takes to get it ready with the proper equipment, and ready to fight crime on the streets.
