BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- Action has been taken against Bethesda Police Chief Justin Wise after an investigation was launched by village leaders.
On Friday, NEWS9 confirmed through village officials that Wise was initially investigated regarding claims of sexual harassment against a former female officer.
During a hearing, it was determined there wasn't sufficient evidence to support the claims. However during the course of the investigation, officials say Wise used language unbecoming of a village official.
As a result, he was suspended.
Village officials say they will not discuss the terms of the suspension, or say when or if it has started, but they did say the matter is resolved.
Mayor Martin Lucas released a statement, it reads as follows: "A recent personnel issue within the Village Police Department was dealt with at a public hearing on Monday, Aug. 11. Village officials had a lengthy investigation on the matter prior to that public hearing. As a result, it was determined that disciplinary action was needed. Police coverage will remain intact with the assistance of the Belmont County Sheriff's Office.
