BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – On Thursday at the Belmont County Commissioners meeting, the fiscal manager presented the commissioners with the first stage of the 2015 budget.
By law, all departments in the county are required to present a "wish list" to the commissioners for 2015, and they can only budget what the county auditor projects will be the revenue in a given year.
The good news for Belmont County continues because the county auditor predicts it will have an additional $2.5 million in revenue in 2015.
“Because it's projected, we are very cautious and fiscally conservative and we always try to stay within our means every year by only a few hundred thousand dollars," Belmont County Commissioner Mark Thomas said.
Thomas added they are in a situation where the county as a whole remains fiscally strong, and the commission will remain conservative with the taxpayers’ funds. But all in all, the fiscal times in Belmont County remain good, and commissioners look to continue that for the next few years.
