Cambridge Police investigating death

At noon on February 7, employees of the Deer Creek Motel contacted the Cambridge Police Department to report the death of a motel guest that was discovered by housekeeping employees.

Officers arrived and found a 44-year-old male dead on the floor of the hotel room.

A search warrant was obtained for the search of the room and the victim’s vehicle.

Details of the crime are being actively investigated by the Cambridge Police Department along with investigators of the Guernsey County Sheriff’s office and crime scene agents of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

The identity of the victim is not being released pending the notification of relatives.

He is believed to be a recent Cambridge resident, having moved here from North Carolina.

The victim had been staying at the motel since this past Saturday, February 1.

Guernsey County Coroner Dr. Sandy Schubert ordered the victim to be transported to the Licking County Coroner’s office where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and time of death.

The Guernsey County Prosecutor’s office is actively working with investigators as the investigation progresses.

No arrests have been made and no one is in custody in connection with this homicide.

This is the first homicide in the City of Cambridge since April 2012.
