BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio--

A dog is found shot and wounded in Flushing on Wednesday. Humane officers in Belmont County say the Vcelka family found the dog when they were hunting.

Steve Vcelka said it had gone in one of their small tents out in a remote area of the woods.

The dog was shot in the leg and it had to be amputated. Humane officer Mandae Lewis said the dog is a fighter and survived a few days out in the woods with the wound.

"He was shot four or five days ago and his leg was infected and it was also broke," said Lewis. "We took him in Wednesday afternoon, they assessed him, and he had his leg amputated."

The Belmont County Animal Shelter named the dog Vcelka after the family that found him.

"We hope if anyone has information on what happened they will call the shelter," said Lewis. "It's a very wonderful dog with a great attitude and personality," she added.
