Domestic violence roundtable held in Moundsville

Updated: Tuesday, August 19 2014, 06:07 PM EDT
MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. – Domestic violence programs in West Virginia serve more than $18,000 people each year.
Leaders are working to help victims and also working on prevention. A roundtable discussion was held at the Marshall County Family Resource Network in Moundsville on Tuesday.
State Representative David McKinley met with the prosecutor's office, police, counselors and victims about their concerns.
“I think we talked a lot about is preventing it from happening in the first place, and being able to shape behaviors differently,” said Joyce Yedlosky of the West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
"It comes into Washington often enough,” McKinley said, “but I wanted to have more of a grassroots. It’s one thing to be dealing with these issues of domestic violence against women from 30,000 feet. Let’s get down to the the ground. We want to see how it’s affecting them. We want to see how the money is being spent. How we can spend it better?
McKinley began a full week of meetings and events with constituents on Monday. He also planned to meet with local law enforcement about the drug problem in the Ohio Valley.
