COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio – A search for Zane Carter, a missing Wellsville man, has consumed Wellsville for nine days.
They’ve combed through parts of three states and a handful of counties. On Tuesday afternoon, Lt. Ed Wilson of the Wellsville Police Department explained the grim possibility of the situation.
“All indications are it was an overdose at an undisclosed location,” Wilson said. “And the people panicked and took the body and dumped it. That’s been 90 percent of the answers that we’ve gotten.”
In a situation like that, immediate medical attention is needed.
“The end of the story is if they don’t get help within a certain time on an overdose, then they’re not going to make it,” Wilson said. “I’m not going to pretend we’re looking for a live person. Anything is possible, but …”
The recovery effort will ramp up this weekend. Wilson says a specialized crew is being brought in to search the water, the air, and the ground for Carter.
