Fourth annual Steven Dobranetski 5k a success

Updated: Saturday, July 26 2014, 07:47 PM EDT

Runners and walkers supported the Fourth annual Steven Dobranetski Memorial Scholarship 5k Saturday at Buckeye Local High School.

The 5k raises money for the American Suicide Prevention Foundation, the Buckeye Local High School cross country team and a scholarship for one Buckeye Local cross country athlete.

"I don't know if I could ever explain what it means to me and my parents, the kind of support that we've received. What we've gone through, not many families have ever experienced before and just to have all these people here who care about us and want to remember Steven, it's really special," Steven Dobranetski's sister, Jennifer Dobranetski, said.

This weekend was their class' ten-year reunion so many of Dobranetski's classmates were there to show their support.

The 5k was put together in memory of Steven Dobranetski by his two best friends, Sean Tuttle and Jonathan Tomolonis, and cross country teammates.

"Just decided to do something to remember his name and keep his memory alive, and give back to our school and to our team," Tuttle said.

The winner of the race was actually the athlete who won the scholarship this year and he has participated in the 5k all four years.

"It's my school and I did run here all the time, I like the course and it is for a good cause," Ryan Lewten said.

Next year, the 5k will once again be held on the last Saturday of July.
