Funding approved for NatureWorks projects

Updated: Thursday, January 30 2014, 09:29 PM EST

TORONTO, Ohio -

Over $26,000 in funding was approved Monday for two NatureWorks projects in Jefferson County.

The city of Toronto will receive a grant of $15,824 for improvements to their War Memorial Park.

“It is a memorial park dedicated to the men and women that fought in WWII but we call it the ‘Living Memorial Park’ now. It’s one of the best park facilities in the county,” Mayor John Geddis said.

The project will include a new playground and improvements to the pool.

“We try to continue to make improvements annually at the park so it’s well attended and the families and children don’t get bored with the same old thing,” Geddis said.

Geddis said they hope the new improvements to the park will be ready by May.

“We certainly appreciate the Department of Natural Resources and NatureWorks for awarding us this grant,” Geddis said.

The second project approved in Jefferson County was the Village of Smithfield, receiving $7,773 for improvements to its little league softball field.
