WHEELING, W.Va.--

Peter Young, 34, was hit by a truck and killed just two days before Thanksgiving.

Sgt. Matt Taylor is investigating the case.

“Young was found on the on ramp to I-70 eastbound on Mount DeChantal Road; he was run over in that vicinity and dragged 300 feet," he said.

Taylor said a doctor-- driving by-- stopped to help when he saw Young in the road.

“He told the man he had been hit by a Ford truck, but we never got to speak with Young,” said Taylor.

Young died on the way to a Morgantown Hospital.

Taylor said he believes the driver knew they hit someone or something, but police don’t believe it was intentional.

“We’ve been told Mr. Young was well liked and from what we could tell he had no enemies,” said Taylor.

Friends and family said Young was a father of two and visited his kids after school every day. He was also studying to be a chef at West Virginia Northern Community College.

Police said Young didn't have a car and normally got from place to place by foot.

“We are hoping someone will come forward and say they were in the area and possibly saw something,” said Taylor.

Police said there are no traffic cameras in the area where Young was hit. The accident happened on a dark, cold and rainy evening.
