WHEELING, W.Va.--

Emergency Management in Marshall and Ohio counties are watching for potential flooding because of ice jams.

Neighbors near Haddale Avenue in Wheeling were checking out the situation on Monday afternoon.

Fred Wetzel says he’s seen the creek look a lot worse.

“Right now, it’s iffy, but it’s been higher and more backed up,” said Wetzel. “I have seen it flood in this area at least 10 times."

Some neighbors told NEWS9 they were carrying things upstairs just in case.

“If it gets past Kroger, that's the bottleneck, we will be all right,” said Wetzel.

“Right now, there is no alarm the water is backing a little into yards, but not close to any homes,” said Ohio County EMA Director Lou Vargo.

“We will continue to watch tonight into tomorrow."

Marshall County EMA Director Tom Hart said there is some flooding on Fish Creek and the road is closed.

“I am not sure when that road will reopen with more winter weather coming, but we are watching several different ice jams on Middle Grave Creek, Big Grave Creek and Fish Creek,” said Hart.
