MARTINS FERRY, Ohio

2014 has started off on a positive note in Martins Ferry, with officials moving up in positions all throughout the city.

Paul Stecker, the newly appointed law director of Martins Ferry, could not be more excited about his new role in his hometown.

Stecker was sworn in by Mayor Paul Riethmiller this week, and looks forward to what 2014 has in store.

Stecker said he found out on Monday that he would take on this new position as the city's law director.

"Yes when Dan Fry took the county prosecutor position I knew there was an opening so I submitted my name for consideration," said Stecker.

He said his main duty is to advise City Council and the mayor whenever legal issues arise.

"I'm very honored I moved back because I enjoyed growing up here and i have two young children, I wanted them to grow up here, there is really nothing like growing up in a small town, and now I get the opportunity to help make it even better," said Stecker.

He said he is most looking forward to meeting more citizens and helping to make martins ferry better.

Former law director Dan Fry passed along advice to Stecker to not feel on the spot, to always take his time, and to research.

"I'm very excited, I'm humble to have the opportunity to serve," said Stecker.

And he isn't the only one excited about his new position.

"What we're excited about is that he's a hometown boy that wants he got his degree started outside of Martins Ferry but chose to come back home with his wife and two kids here and is a very young and energetic young man and we are really excited i think he will do a lot of great things for the city of Martins Ferry," said Mayor Paul Riethmiller of Martins Ferry.

Stecker will be replacing Dan Fry, who has been promoted to Belmont County Prosecutor.
