Missing hunter found safe

Updated: Wednesday, December 4 2013, 09:25 PM EST

A hunter who was missing overnight was found safe when he came out from a wooded area onto a golf course Wednesday morning.

Kevin Swallie, 46, was reported missing Tuesday evening and was last seen in the Armstrong Mills in Belmont County.

Along with officials with the Belmont County Sheriff's Office and other officials, Swallie's friends spent hours searching for him until late Tuesday.

Wednesday morning, Allan Boan at the Horseshow Bend Golf Course saw the story on the morning news and was hoping Swallie would find his way home safely. Soon after, Swallie walked into the golf shop.

"He was like, 'I got lost.' (I said), 'They're looking for you. You're on the news. The Sheriff's Department is looking for you and he was like, 'Really?' Boan said.

Butch Meager said he, Swallie and their friends set out for a day of hunting early Tuesday but Swallie went missing.

"We thought he'd be back. His brother made it and he didn't make it to where we were, so we became concerned because it's hunting season and everyone is carrying firearms. There are accidents that can take place other than being lost," Meager said.

Meager said the search effort continued until around 2 a.m., then crews planned to resume their search early Wednesday.

"(We were) doing what we could, yelling for him and searching for him and we had no results," adding that he was relieved when they received the call their friend had been found.

Swallie was in good condition and was able to return home.
