Officials to parents: Talk to talk to kids about ‘Fire Challenge’

Updated: Monday, August 4 2014, 05:17 PM EDT
BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. – It’s the latest internet fad. And officials are wondering why anyone would even consider giving it a try. It’s called the ‘Fire Challenge.’
Videos of teenagers pouring rubbing alcohol on themselves, then lighting themselves on fire are all over the web. The effects are immediate -- severe burns, even scarring -- but you don’t see the consequences in the videos.
Officials from the Hooverson Heights Volunteer Fire Department are urging parents to talk to their kids about the new fad. They point out you're not just endangering yourself, any fire can spread quickly causing damage or injury to anyone or anything nearby.
