JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio -- A local doctor who was arrested last week and charged with drug trafficking made his first appearance inside a Jefferson County courtroom on Monday.
Dr. Douglas Trubiano, owner of the Tiltonsville Clinic, was booked on additional charges Monday -- another count of drug trafficking, and a single count of illegal processing of drug documents.
He entered a not guilty plea and was released under the condition that his DEA license be suspended temporarily. That is the license that the doctor would use to write prescriptions.
Officials say the doctor was allegedly prescribing large quantities of controlled substances to female patients inappropriately. Investigators say it was for non-medical reasons.
So where does this investigation go from here?
"I anticipate the testimony of one of the police officers," Jefferson County Assistant Prosecutor Jeff Bruzzese said. "The witnesses include a confidential informant who went into the doctor's office."
Officials with the Ohio Valley Medical Center said the decision was made to have two doctors take over Trubiano's responsibilities at the clinic until the matter is resolved. The Tiltonsville Clinic is a member of the Ohio Valley Medical Group.
Those doctors will provide clinical services to patients for five days a week.
