Overcrowding an issue on Hancock County school busses

Updated: Wednesday, August 27 2014, 06:40 PM EDT
HANCOCK COUNTY, Ohio - Some parents in Hancock County are concerned about overcrowded buses.
It's become a situation where buses are packed above capacity and some kids are sitting in the aisles and others are standing. Some parents have photographic proof.
That's a serious safety concern for Jeanne Moore, whose kids ride the bus to and from Weir Middle and Weir High School.
"You're getting four children to a seat," she said. "My son said some are even sitting on the floor of the bus. So I think that's a little unsafe. Four in a seat and as big as they are with no seat belts, anything could happen."
Moore is just one of many parents with the same concern. She said some of her friends have even started taking and picking up their children to and from school.
"I've talked to a lot of other parents and they are upset with it," she said. "(They are) picking numerous kids up and bring them home because we don't want them on the bus right now."
Superintendent of Hancock County Schools Suzan Smith said she is well aware of the issue.
"We did have some overcrowding on Monday," she said. "Those corrections have been made. Transportation was notified. We are making adjustments."
