BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio -- Residents in Belmont County voiced their concerns during the County Commissioners meeting Wednesday on issues they're facing with creeks. The problem, they said, is trash and other debris.
It wasn’t new news to Belmont County Commissioners President Matt Coffland, who said in November 2011, they spent more than $75,000 cleaning the creeks.
Some of the troubled creeks are on Barton Creek County Road 10, Pipe Creek, and Lansing.
Coffland says it’s an ongoing issue with residents that rekindles every spring and summer.
Coffland said the creeks are not under the commissioners’ jurisdiction, but they are stepping in to see what they can do to try to get a program put into place.
"If we appropriate some money moving forward, maybe next year to get back in those creeks, that’s the only thing,” Coffland said. “We can ask (the Ohio Department of Natural Resources) and engineers to return again to look at these creeks."
Coffland said he plans on getting in touch with ODNR and other officials to find a solution.
