Jefferson County, OH

Police in Dillonvale are looking for a thief or thieves who stole several storm grates in the village.

Five grates weighing 200 pounds each were stolen over the weekend.

“It seems like we’ve got thieves everywhere. They’re not working or they are using it for dope or whatever they are doing,” Village Administrator Wayne Rager said.

Dillonvale Police Chief Scott Christian said the grates are likely being added to vehicles headed to scrap yards. He said the more the vehicle weighs the more money it is worth.

The cost to replace each one of the grates is between $500 and $750.

“Well, we’ve had some tips. The people see different stray vehicles around. If they were smart, they’d turn them in. Just drop them off behind the village by the building and nothing will be said. If we find out who they are, we will prosecute them to the fullest,” Rager said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them or the Crime Busters Tipline at 1-800-862-BUST.
