Storms cause heavy damage in Tuscarawas County

Updated: Wednesday, August 13 2014, 05:25 PM EDT
TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio – A storm ripped through Tuscarawas County on Monday, leaving behind a mess for residents and officials wondering what, exactly, hit them. They’re questioning whether or not those heavy winds might have been a tornado.
"We had the most unusual swirling wind and strong windstorm that came through Baltic," Mayor Lana Guinsinger said.
It was so unusual, she thinks it was a twister.
"My concern was for each of the residents,” she said.
No one was hurt, but fire crews have been working around the clock to clean up the mess that was left behind.
Gallons of water rushed through a path that sits between the fire department and village building, including spots were it was 28 inches high. It eventually found a way inside the basement of a distribution center, damaging products inside.
“As they pumped the water out, they all pitched in and swept and squeegeed the floor and got the initial water damage out," Guinsinger said.
Up to 7 inches of water flooded parts of the town forcing roads to close off. Officials say there were no problems with the drinking water and no power outages.
