Soon after his mother reported him missing, the body of a local man was found on a frozen lake.

Lawrence Finnegan, 55, of Senecaville, was found dead Monday night around 200 yards from the shoreline on top of the iced-over Seneca Lake.

Guernsey County Sheriff Mike McCauley said Finnegan was reported missing just around 11 p.m. According to reports, Finnegan's mother told 911 dispatchers that she believed her son had frozen on the ice on top of the lake. She said he told her he was going for a walk on the ice around 6 p.m., something he reportedly liked to do, but he did not return home.

Finnegan's mother told dispatchers her other son left in search of his brother. First responders headed to the lake, and Finnegan's brother followed footsteps in the snow to the edge of the lake. Around 11:30 p.m., he found his brother's body on the ice and pulled him to shore.

Investigators said Finnegan had no apparent injuries and no foul play is suspected. Authorities said the exact cause of death is still not clear and the case remains under investigation.
