Updated: Thursday, September 5 2013, 10:28 PM EDT

GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio---

A standoff situation started around 12:30 p.m. with a well-being check in Byesville.

Officials were told the man inside the home they were checking was armed with a shotgun.

The house, which is located near three schools, was then surrounded by police.

Those schools, Meadowbrook High School, Meadowbrook Middle School and Brook Elementary School, were all placed on lockdown.

Once officials were able to get inside the house, they found a male subject dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The kids inside those schools were dismissed safely.

In the meantime, while those schools were on lockdown, Meadowbrook Middle School reported a bomb threat had been written on a school wall.

The school resource officer was able to identify the student responsible for the threat.

Right now, charges are pending.
