A new report about a shrinking Ohio Valley is getting a lot of attention.
It's also getting some scrutiny.
It's a national report from the Huffington Post website, and its subject is the Steubenville-Weirton metro area making a list of top shrinking communities, mainly following the collapse of big steel.
But there is some good news, mainly because those numbers are old news.
"It's a good community," Mingo Junction resident Clyde Trout said. "I'm not going nowhere."
Trout works with the gas and oil industry and all of his sons work in the coal industry as well.
"The growth is there," Trout said. "All you gotta do is work. Go out and look for the jobs they're there."
Small businesses are growing in Steubenville. Mary Decker is the owner of Valley Wine Cellar and said her business is growing, not shrinking
"I think it's growing in the past few years," she said. "There have been several businesses that are growing and that are opening. So I definitely think it's growing."
Patrick Ford is the Executive Director of the Business Development Corporation of the Northern Panhandle.
He said shrinking numbers are just outdated.
"All of the indicators that we see show that we are a growing community," he said.
