HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. --

Hancock County officials are continuing their search for a man armed with a handgun who robbed a Newell store Thursday.

Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher said the crime happened around 7 p.m. at Phillies Quick Stop on Route 2.

Officials said the robber demanded money from the clerk and he escaped with approximately $500 in cash from the register. There were no reported injuries.

The robber fled the scene on foot, heading north. Officials said evidence was found indicating he changed directions and headed south on Coolidge Street.

The man is described as a white male believed to be around 5 feet 9 inches or 5 feet 10 inches. At the time of the incident, officials said he was dressed in all black, including a black hooded sweatshirt, a black bandana over his face and dark sunglasses.
