How funds were allegedly spent in Weirton embezzlement case

Updated: Friday, February 21 2014, 01:08 PM EST

WEIRTON, W.Va. – Jamie Lynne Bernardi, who was arrested Feb. 15 and charged with embezzlement of nearly $6,000 from her employer, Change Inc., made a brief appearance in court Friday morning.

Bernardi was arrested after a manager of the domestic violence center alerted detectives after it appeared Bernardi was taking money.

According to the criminal complaint, Bernardi is alleged to have billed rental cars for personal use to the company, as well as using the company credit card. She also allegedly pawned a company iPad, iPhone, and a lap top.

She’s also alleged to have taken $2,000 from a children’s Christmas fund she was in charge of.

The defense and prosecution agreed that a treatment court evaluation be completed before the case goes any further.

Bernardi, who spoke only to her attorney in court, awaits that evaluation, and those results will determine the next step in how this case moves forward.

She is due back in court on March 21.
