HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. – The Weirton business community remembered the life of a local businessman Tuesday.

Al Lauttamus, who started his career as a janitor and worked his way to founder of Lauttamus Communications and Security, passed away last Thursday.

He’s being remembered for his impact on the community.

“He developed a great communications community with Lauttamus Communications and Security,” George Kondik, mayor of Weirton, said. “Al was one of those kinds of guys that everywhere you went, he was there -- social events, charitable events -- and he was a great pillar of the community. His love for Weirton was great.”

What started as a small business in his garage and grew nationwide.

Lauttamus was also known for offering more than 200 services at no cost to the entire state of West Virginia. The recipients included people who needed help with utility bills, depression and other issues.
