WEIRTON, W.Va.

Officials are investigating the case of a man found with a gunshot wound in Weirton early Thursday.

Gary Roseberry, 26, was found wounded in the 2600 block of Weir Avenue around 1 a.m., according to Weirton police.

Investigators said Roseberry had a gunshot wound that appeared to go through his triceps and armpit and into his chest.

Officials at the scene described his injuries as critical and he was airlifted by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh-area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said he was responsive when they arrived at the scene.

Investigators are looking for any evidence that could be used to solve the crime and said they are investigating the possibility that the shooting did not happen on Weir Avenue.

Police said they believe the weapon used was a pistol. But as of early Thursday, no bullet casings had been found and neighbors told police that they did not hear any gunshots.

Officials with the Weirton Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff`s Office and West Virginia State Police are all part of the investigation.
