More job opportunities on their way to Brooke, Hancock counties

Updated: Tuesday, July 1 2014, 06:25 PM EDT
BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. -- More job opportunities are on their way to Brooke and Hancock counties, all because of new development.
Weirton Business Development officials say 800 jobs have been created at Wheeling Corrugating in Beech Bottom.
That doesn't include thousands of other jobs Brooke-Hancock Business Development Corporation officials say they've helped to create in other parts of Brooke and Hancock Counties.
"The numbers are actually staggering and also they are very exciting,” said Pat Ford, BDC executive director. “Over the past five years, after we've focused on what the needs are in our community to expand the tax base and what jobs we needed to do to attract, and what industries we needed to bring here, the results have been that we've been able to attract over $44 million of annual payroll, which is reflected in about 1,400 jobs that have been created in just Brooke County."
BDC officials say they expect more jobs to come to the area within the year.
