WEIRTON, W.Va. -- A $6.1 million sewer project in Weirton is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Tasks like replacing piping, pumping, and electrical equipment were completed during the winter months and the road is now newly paved.
Installation of the new pipe began on North Main and went all the way down Freedom Way.  A problem discovered at the 5th Street lift station resulted in overflowing, so renovations to that station and 26,000 feet of piping will divert all sewage through the station to the water treatment plant.
Mayor George Kondik said he is very satisfied with how the project is shaping up and "they're ahead of schedule and under budget."
The project is being funded by the Sanitary Board and the State Revolving Fund for Sewer Development.
