Updated: Thursday, April 17 2014, 12:18 AM EDT

HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. -

Workers off a dry dock on the East Liverpool side near the Jennings Randolph Memorial Bridge spotted a body in the Ohio River around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, according to Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher.
Immediately, crews were called to the scene, and members of the Chester Fire Department retrieved the body.
Officials said the individual is a female, and they don't believe she is from the area.
Sheriff Fletcher, whose office will take over the investigation, said the woman was reported missing back in mid-February.

Fletcher said the woman may have been identified by a member of the East Liverpool Police Department but he said his office will wait to release her identification until a medical examination can be conducted.

Fletcher said the woman's body is on its way to the medical examiner's office for that examination.
