Brooke, Hancock County, W.Va---

The frigid temperatures made it a tough fire fight for multiple crews as they fought two fires Tuesday afternoon; in Wellsburg and the other in Weirton.

Crews through one of the coldest day we have had in years, at two different house fires, doing their best to keep the residents and neighbors safe, and themselves.

The first fire broke out around 2 p.m.at 27 High View Circle in Weirton.
The Emergency Management Agency was there to help, and blow up a portable shelter for crews to take breaks and stay warm in.
Officials were on scene for about 6 hours.  The home has been ruled a total loss.  No one was home at the time but a dog did die in the fire.
One firefighter suffered a minor injured from the icy conditions at the scene.
Officials do not believe the fire to be suspicious but it is still under investigation.
The second fire happened at 185 Megan Drive East.
Capt. Tim Disero of the Wellsburg Fire Department said it was an electrical fire and the homeowners got out in time with no injuries.

He said the homeowners do have to stay somewhere else until they can rebuild and recoup some of the loss.

"Right now there's an inspection hole that we put in the roof and it leads to the outside and obviously, with the temps out, they are going to need a place to stay that's warm," said Diserio.

“I’ve got three daughters they all got our OK and we have a couple cats and a ferret. We got them all out OK. If it's not liveable anymore we’re going to have to probably stay with my parents until we find somewhere else to move to," said renter Lisa Louthen.

Diserio said he doesn't think the weather played a factor; it was just the age of the structure and the age of the structure.
