WEIRTON, W.Va. - STEUBENVILLE, OH

A new network control center is planned to open in Steubenville in about 90 days. It's all part of the Weirton Area Port Authority crossing off goals for 2014.

The WAPA master plan has been in the works for about three years. And new technology with a local business partnership is taking the first step towards reaching their goals.

With the help of the WAPA, one success story comes from West Virginia Port Communications LLC. That group is supporting the master plan by helping to bring network access to the Ohio Valley.

President of West Virginia Port Communications, Michael Tipton, said the new partnership will greatly help the Ohio Valley by bringin high speed internet and next generation internet to the region.

WAPA Chairman BJ DeFelice and Tipton said that the new network control center will be built in Steubenville to be the brain of the communication and data system.

The internet would be about 1000 times broader and more capable than the current internet in the region. This would potentially provide more opportunities for business and economy to improve in the Ohio Valley.
