Court documents have revealed more information after a body was found at a Weirton apartment complex over the weekend.

Leslie Craig Arnold Jr. is charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and possessing a firearm in connection with the death of Tanya Garan.

On Monday, during Arnold's extradition hearing in Jefferson County, he was only facing charges for his alleged connection to an armed robbery Saturday outside Gabriel Brothers on Three Springs Drive in Weirton.

According to a criminal complaint, that armed robbery led police to the apartment that Arnold was staying at in the Overbrook Towers on Cove Road.

When officers arrived, they found the body of a woman identified in the documents as Tanya Garan. An excerpt of a criminal complaint describes what happened when police arrived.

"Upon clearing the apartment, it was found that what was believed to be a human body wrapped inside multiple garbage bags. Upon processing the crime scene the deceased female party was identified as Tanya Garan, the reported missing person," the complaint states.

The complaint further has an interview with Arnold, during which he claimed Garan's death was caused by a violent sexual encounter.

"The defendant left the victim in the bed, where he choked her and slept with her deceased body until the morning … began to wrap her in eight layers of garbage bags until he felt that she was secure. The defendant then placed the victim's wrapped body into the bedroom closet," the document states.

Weirton Police Chief Bruce Marshall said Arnold has an extensive criminal record in Pennsylvania and had one conviction in West Virginia previous to this incident.

Garan's body was taken to Charleston for an autopsy, which, according to the complaint, states that two of Garan's neck bones were snapped.

A video arraignment was held for Arnold on the murder and firearm-possession charges. Court officials said he will appear before a judge again on Friday morning.

Arnold remains in the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail.
