WEIRTON, W.VA.--

From shooting bows to beauty, several various small businesses are making their way into Weirton, and with them comes a boost to the local economy.

“We thrive on small businesses.  Yes, people go to the Walmart and big-box stores, but we also have a commitment to our fellow small businesses.  They are the backbone of our communities,” Weirton Mayor George Kondik said.

A new hair salon, Awe-Sum Hair,  has already opened its doors near the Kwik King off the Colliers exit, and on Main Street you will find a store unique to archery enthusiasts.

Alexander Archery is complete with a shooting range on the second floor, something you would have to travel to Imperial to see on a smaller scale.

Owner and Weirton police sargent, Rob Alexander said he was glad to open a business close to home to bring in customers from near and far.

"You always want to see the business expand.  If it was up to us, we'd want to see shops on every corner.  What we can do for the city to make the city grow is fantastic for everyone,” Alexander said.

Kondik said a dance apparel store is on its way to Theresa Drive and Papi J’s Fairway Grille and Indoor Golf will open on Penco Road.  Those businesses will open in the next 30-60 days.
