Community gathers for annual recognition banquet

CADIZ, Ohio - Seven local businesses, organizations and individuals were recognized during the 16th annual Cadiz Community Recognition Banquet for  helping to improve  the community.

The annual Cadiz Recognition Banquet has been a positive force in the community through the years.

“It honors people who really need to be recognized, who kind of have not been in the limelight but (have been) working hard for the community for a long time,” Chairman of the Community Recognition Banquet Jackie Hutyera said.

The award for Business The award for Business of the Year went to Orme-East-Do-It-Best Hardware and owner Dick McCoy who, after finishing an expansion project, doubled the size of the business.

Cadiz Mayor Ken Zitko was recognized for the Harrison News-Herald Citizens’ choice award.

The Cadiz Woman’s Civic Club Community Service Award went to Naomi Trotter, who has distinguished herself through public service.

The Sally Buffalo Park Board Award of Excellence went to Darrin Young. The Clark Gable Foundation was named Organization of the Year. The Tony Pietrangelo Memorial Beautification Award went to McDonald’s.

Village leaders, business owners and community members at the event were happy to talk about how the village has improved.

McCoy, the owner of Orme-East Do-It-Best Hardware, was honored to receive Business of the Year award and said business has been going really well.

“You know, the town is growing, we’ve seen our sales at the hardware store increase, the oil and gas business is bringing a lot of new revenue and opportunities into town,” McCoy said.

Zitko said the village has flourished and this year has been an exciting time for everyone.

“We have the MarkWest right behind us here, which has brought in a lot of jobs and a lot of money for infrastructure. We’re doing a lot better than down through the years,” Zitko said.

Business owners and village leaders are looking forward to what lies ahead for the area’s future and they hope the economy will continue to flourish.
