Building collapse concerns officials

Updated: Friday, March 14 2014, 11:53 PM EDT

CADIZ, Ohio

A building located along East Market Street in Cadiz came tumbling down Friday evening.

When crews first arrived, they found a hole in the building that measured about 18 feet wide and 9 feet high.

About an hour later, officials said the entire side wall and front of the building collapsed.

The building is located across from Di Angelo’s Pizza.

Officials said the main concern is finding out what should be done next.  Because the buildings are connected, other structures could be damaged as well.

“It’s almost 100 years old.  It’s an old building.  I believe there was some, might have been some structural issues with the building that could have caused the wall to come down.  I am just glad that no one got hurt,” said Cadiz Police Chief Ryan McCann.

The collapse did damage a car.
It was later towed from the scene.

Cadiz and Jewett fire department crews were called in to help clean up.
