HARRISON COUNTY, Ohio. -- People are losing some access to the Conotton Creek Trail because of oil and gas trucks, but Harrison County Commissioner Don Bethel says it’s only for a short period of time.

Conotton Creek Trail is a 12-mile stretch that starts in Jewett and crosses in front of one of the biggest developments in the country.

Bethel says MarkWest is the only company that has come to the commissioners asking them for an open cut in the trail. When they do work on it, he says it will take only about a week.

“The Trail Committee is fully aware of it and, unfortunately, it will disrupt some of the walkers and bikers on the path this time of year,” Bethel said.

Bethel says in return, MarkWest is going to pave a mile-and-a-half of the trail in a badly needed area.

The open cuts would be about a mile from Jewett toward Scio.
