CADIZ, Ohio – The Harrison County Board of Elections kept busy Monday, recounting all ballots plus provisional and absentee ballots received after Election day.
When the results were in, Owen Beetham remained the winner in the Harrison County Prosecutor's race.
“(I’m) delighted as I was on Election Night,” Beetham said. “Now things are finalized it feels good to have the final number back, and I'm excited to move forward."
In the May 6 Primary Election, Beetham defeated incumbent Michael Washington by 24 votes.
This was the unofficial canvass, so there was still a chance that the results could change.
"We had 13 provisionals that were accepted by the board to count and two absentees that were postmarked by the 5th, so we counted those into the unofficial count," said Harrison County Board of Election Deputy Director Jessy Bumgardner,
Monday's official count was 560 for Beetham and 530 for Washington, a new difference of 30 votes.
“A healthy margin,” Beetham said. “I knew the race would be close, and it was."
Beetham can now look ahead.
“(I’m) looking forward to the General Election in the fall,” he said. “Obviously I'm unopposed, which is nice. That will give me a little additional time to plan the transition. Hopefully that will go smoothly."
