County commissioners solve water problem, save money

Updated: Thursday, April 3 2014, 05:47 PM EDT

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio -- After a lot of talk over the past several weeks regarding the county's bulk water rate, it appears the issue is coming to a close for Jefferson County Commissioners, and could provide a savings to them in the long run.
Last week, commissioners secured an agreement with Toronto to provide an increased amount of water to county customers from the Toronto plant.
They were still were looking for another source to service another area of Jefferson County and transition completely away from the City of Steubenville as a source.
Now with a verbal agreement with Mingo Junction, that transition is nearly complete with savings in mind.
"It's $28,000 we will save with Mingo; $18,000 that we are saving with Toronto," Jefferson County Commissioner Tom Graham said. "So between the two of them we will save $46,000 based on the rate increase that Steubenville was going to give us."
