JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio – A Steubenville man was arrested Thursday night after police say he allegedly threatened his family and then fired a gun within city limits.
Police said the situation could have been much worse.
According to reports, Arthur Benjamin, Jr., 77, left his daughter’s residence with a gun after making threats to family members just after 7 p.m. Thursday. Police later caught up with Benjamin outside of the Pleasant Food Mart. That’s where he pulled out a gun, pointed it at himself and fired. He missed but the bullet did hit the side of the building.
After receiving an evaluation at Trinity West, Benjamin was taken to the Jefferson County Jail on a $250,000 bond. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, handling weapons while intoxicated, discharging a firearm within city limits and domestic violence.
